While the Cardinals' defense was fairly stout against the pass, especially with regards to generating a pass rush, they were quite pathetic on the ground.

They allowed a league-leading 2,479 rushing yards at 4.9 yards per attempt. As these numbers suggest, they were abysmal on a per play basis against the run. They posted -0.09 Adjusted Defensive NEP per play in 2018, tied for the worst mark in the league (with the Chicago Bears). A big man up front is certainly on their wish list.

If they want to satisfy this need with their very first pick, they may look to Alabama Crimson Tide defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. He has drawn comparisons to another former Crimson Tide player, namely Jonathan Allen of Washington, and was a finalist for several major college awards, notably the Bronco Nagurski and Outland Trophy. Williams showed himself to be a disruptive force in both the ground and passing games, finishing second in the SEC with 20 tackles for loss, as well as the fifth-most sacks (eight).

The Cardinals got very little by way of disruptive performances from their defensive tackles in 2018, with their top three players at this spot -- Robert Nkemdiche, Rodney Gunter and Corey Peters -- combining for a total of 20 quarterback hits, 11.5 sacks and just 3 forced fumbles. Williams should be an immediate upgrade.
