An Upstart Patriots Pass Rush

The Patriots' defense was nothing special during the regular season. They ended the year ranked 15th, per numberFire metrics, and generated only 30 sacks, which was tied for the second fewest by any team.

But in the postseason, they've tallied multiple sacks in each game (4 and 2) while racking up 17 quarterback hits, most among any postseason team. The Patriots' improved pass rush actually dates back to their Week 11 bye. Over the final six games of the regular season, New England tallied multiple sacks in five of those games. Overall, they racked up 15 sacks over that span, which accounted for half of their season total (30).

On the other side, the Rams' offensive line has been stellar this postseason as well. Goff has taken just one sack, and the Rams have allowed only seven hits on the quarterback over two games. But should the Patriots defense win this matchup, Goff's struggles, which we discussed earlier, could continue.
