Washington - Vernon Davis

Cap Savings: $5 million

Dead Money: $1.33 million

The 2018 season will not go down in history as a memorable one for the Washington offense, with a host of quarterback injuries scuppering what was at one stage a likely run at competing for the NFC East title.

It also marked a disappointing personal season for Vernon Davis, who posted the worst numbers of his three-year stint with the team. Davis averaged 11.04 yards per target and 15.5 yards per reception in the nine games before Alex Smith suffered a career-threatening and season-ending injury. Those numbers fell to 10.4 and 13.5, respectively, in the four games afterwards.

Davis was still reliable on a per-play basis, however. Only four tight ends had a higher Target NEP per target than his 0.58, and only three bettered his 0.88 Reception NEP per target (out of 43 tight ends with at least 30 targets.)

Davis will be 35 by the time the season starts and given the emergence (such as it was) of Jeremy Sprinkle, cutting Davis would free up some cap space for the quarterback Washington will likely have to bring in to cover for Smith. Davis could certainly still do a job for someone, but his days as an every-down starter are long over.
