Dion Lewis Is the Titans' Top Goal-Line Back, Too

The distinction in the Tennessee Titans' backfield was expected to be clear entering the season -- Dion Lewis in the passing game and Derrick Henry on early downs and at the goal line.

Right from Week 1, that idea didn't look to be holding true as Lewis handled two of the team's three red zone rushes in the season opener.

His red zone workload didn't get particularly big, though, partially because the Titans' offense was struggling. Lewis didn't handle more than three red zone opportunities in any game through the first eight weeks of the season, but that has changed in a big way recently.

Over the last four games, Lewis has amassed 15 red zone opportunities -- compared to the 10 total he notched from Weeks 1 to 8. He has accounted for at least one quarter of the team's red zone opportunities in three of the last four games, including 50% against the Houston Texans in Week 12.

It's not just red zone work Lewis is getting, though, but also goal-line work.

The Titans have generated 18 opportunities from snaps from the 10-yard line over the last four weeks, and Lewis has a team-high 27.8% market share of those opportunities.

A healthy Marcus Mariota seems to have turned this offense around, and with an average of 10.5 red zone snaps per game over the last four weeks (compared to 7.1 over the first eight), Lewis' 28.1% red zone opportunity market share (14th in the NFL) should translate to plenty more scoring opportunities.
