Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions

DraftKings Price: $4,000

Projected Points: 9.82

Projected Value (points per $1,000): 2.46

The Detroit Lions' trade of Golden Tate has made Theo Riddick a near every-down receiver. Yes, you read that correctly, Theo has seen 15 targets over the last two games, getting receiver-like usage.

Tate’s departure placed a void for a short-area receiver, a role that Riddick thrives in. His average depth of target (-0.7) has been behind the line of scrimmage, which is not uncommon for running backs. With the amount of pressure the Lions' offensive line has been letting up, leading the league with 16 sacks allowed over the last two games, passes are going to Riddick’s way as a result. These combination of factors result in a lot of easy passes being converted into catches, perfect for the DraftKings' format.

Over the course of two weeks, he’s run 29 and 33 routes, which ranks first among all running backs (per Pro Football Focus). Those figures would be good enough to be a number-three wideout in most offenses. With snap rates of 56% and 59%, Riddick is running a route almost every time he is on the field (74% and 71%), a good indicator that his usage is stable.

The Lions may also be even thinner at receiver this week with Marvin Jones sidelined for Wednesday practice, and with no true threat behind Kenny Golladay coupled with Detroit’s offensive line problems, Riddick should get plenty of targets.

Running backs aren’t typically compared to wide receivers, but viewing Riddick as a $4,000 flex spot receiver would put him at a higher target volume than most of the players in that range, while also creating a unique lineup.
