Nick Chubb, RB, Cleveland Browns

Would you really want to roster the third running back on a team that finds itself needing to throw often to stay in games? The Cleveland Browns look a lot more balanced in terms of pass-to-run play calling ratio (11th-lowest) than many other teams in the league, but they’re also just one pass attempt out of the top-10 for most raw passes in the league this year; they’re throwing quite a bit.

To make matters worse for second-round rookie running back Nick Chubb, his usage is far behind that of Duke Johnson, whose usage is far behind that of Carlos Hyde. While Hyde and Johnson have played 53 and 42 percent of the Browns’ offensive snaps, respectively, Chubb has played just 7 percent, spending most of his time on special teams. Sure, we all remember the Week 4 game where Chubb ripped off 105 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, but that was on just three attempts, and those three attempts came on just three snaps that week.

Chubb could be given a major role later on in the year, and he’s an excellent hold in dynasty, but right now he’s not getting the work needed to take up a valuable roster spot in shallow leagues. He’s not the guy I’d drop without thinking, but he’s definitely droppable if an immediate-impact guy like Corey Clement is out there in your league.
