Darren Sproles, Running Back

2017 Team -- Philadelphia Eagles

Darren Sproles played only three games for the Eagles in 2017 before breaking his arm and tearing his ACL in Week 3. Sproles has never been what you would call a true workhorse back, with a single-season career high of 94 carries, which came in 2016. He has been efficient whenever given a chance to carry the ball, however, finishing way above the league average in Rushing NEP per play at the running back position in each of his first three seasons with the Eagles.

It is as a receiver and returner where Sproles has truly made his money in the NFL. He led all running backs in receptions between 2011 (his first season with the New Orleans Saints) and 2016, logging 379 catches in that span. No player had more receiving yards than his 3,183 during that time, and he also had the most touchdowns with 19.

With the emergence of Corey Clement and acquisition of Jay Ajayi, the Eagles don't have a big need for Sproles. So if Sproles plays in 2018 -- which he was leaning towards doing, per January reports -- it will likely be with another team. If he lands somewhere and assumes a meaningful role as a third-down back, he could still offer some PPR value in deep leagues. But in leagues that reward fantasy points for return yards, he could have more value. Only Devin Hester has more punt return yards than Sproles since Sproles came into the league.
