James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

James Conner might be the most important handcuff -- or backup running back -- in the league. If you're wondering why a guy with just 27 carries on the season should be on your fantasy radar, check out DeAngelo Williams' game logs from last year. When Le'Veon Bell was suspended to start the season, the Steelers gave Williams a ton of volume.

Conner replaced Williams as Bell's primary backup this year. You didn't start Conner this week, and you probably won't start him next week -- as long as Bell is still healthy, Conner is not a viable fantasy option. But if Bell goes down, Conner would immediately become a valuable fantasy back, even if he doesn't assume as big of a workload as Bell's.

And speaking of Bell's workload, it's insane. Bell is on pace for 448 touches this season, which would be the sixth-most touches any player has ever had in a season, per Pro-Football-Reference.com.

With a workload like that, it wouldn't surprise anyone at this point if Bell missed a game, and if that happens, you want to have his backup locked down already.
