Danny Woodhead Is Back

It was only for one quarter, but Danny Woodhead looked dominant at the beginning of this season. In that quarter, he carried the rock once for 4 yards and logged 3 receptions for 33 yards, good for 5.2 fantasy points in 0.5 PPR leagues. Things were looking good.

But of course, Woodhead re-aggravated a hamstring injury suffered in the preseason and sat out the following nine weeks. The backfield opened up while he was out, as we saw Terrance West, Javorius Allen and Alex Collins rise to prominence at various points in the season.

It might have been easy to miss in the Ravens' blowout win this past weekend, but Woodhead returned on Sunday and made his presence felt. It wasn't so much Woodhead's stat line that that stood out -- it was his effect on the rest of the backfield.

While Collins handled the majority of the rushing work -- 20 of the team's 24 rushing attempts -- Woodhead immediately took over passing-down duties, catching 5 of 6 targets for 21 yards. Woodhead played just 13 offensive snaps -- which were still three more than Allen did and likely capped by the positive game script -- but he was busy on those plays.

Woodhead's return signaled that Allen is no longer a fantasy option. This is Woodhead's and Collins' backfield now, and Woodhead could see a lot of volume if Baltimore runs into a negative game script.
