Elijah McGuire, RB, New York Jets

FanDuel Price: $5,700

DraftKings Price: $4,600

The New England Patriots defense has been putrid so far this season, ranking 29th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play, while allowing the most yards per game (447.2). Although numberFire's metrics rank the Patriots slightly better against the run (16th), they've allowed the second-most fantasy points to running backs this season.

Therefore, with Bilal Powell expected to miss Sunday's game, it's no surprise that Elijah McGuire has gotten some attention in fantasy circles this week. On a team lacking many playmakers, McGuire would be in for a huge workload if he's the last man standing in the backfield. Even while sharing carries with Powell, in a strong Week 4 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, McGuire showed some upside, putting up over 20 fantasy points on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

But unfortunately for McGuire's fantasy value, Matt Forte has returned to practice this week, increasing the likelihood we'll have both backs in the backfield on Sunday. Furthermore, the Patriots defense showed some signs of life in holding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to just 14 points, although they benefited from some shoddy field goal kicking from the now jobless Nick Folk. There's also the concern that since the Patriots played on a Thursday night, Bill Belichick and friends have had extra time to prepare for the New York Jets and might be able to fix some of the issues that have plagued them so far. History would certainly suggest that a Belichick led defense shouldn't remain this bad all season, and a long week against a familiar opponent would be an appropriate get-right spot.

There's also the fact that we have more convincing value plays at running back this week in Jerick McKinnon and Mark Ingram. If Forte is out on Sunday then that puts McGuire back into tournament consideration, but otherwise it's better to stick with the more guaranteed volume of the other backs.
