Evan Engram, New York Giants

ESPN Ownership: 20.8%

As we already discussed, it's not often that rookie tight ends make an impact in fantasy. However, following the release of teammate Will Tye, rookie Evan Engram's top competition for playing time for the New York Giants is the dad-running Rhett Ellison. That should leave plenty of opportunity for Engram, who is the furthest thing from a dad-runner (his 4.42 40-yard dash time comes in 0.46 seconds faster than Ellison's) you can find at the tight end position.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo has yet to give his tight ends less than a 19% target market share in any of his three seasons with New York (two of which were as the offensive coordinator), which bodes well for Engram, who was used in an every-down role this preseason.

While Engram is sure to experience his fair share of ups and downs in his rookie year, he could play a large role for New York against a Dallas Cowboys team that allowed the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends last season. It is normally worth taking stats from the season prior with a grain of salt, but Dallas' expected current starting linebackers and safeties for this game were all on their roster last year, so with no attempt to shore up their defense in the middle of the field, it wouldn't be surprising to see their struggles against tight ends continue.

If Odell Beckham, who missed practice Monday, were to sit out the game, Engram could be looking at an even larger share of targets in this one.

All things considered, it is tough to trust a rookie tight end in his first NFL game. However, if you're in a deeper league and are in need of a dart throw at the position, there aren't many options more exciting than Engram.
