For defensive end Aldon Smith, the potential and ensuing expectations were even higher. Unlike Fairley, though, the seventh overall pick in the draft turned out two big campaigns to start his career.

In his first two seasons, Smith had 33.5 sacks and 5 forced fumbles. In the second of the two, he had 19.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles alone, along with 1 interception and 50 tackles. For his efforts, he had an AV of 15 and an All-Pro designation to show for it.

Since running into legal troubles, Smith has taken a downturn and hasn't played a snap since 2015.
