Phoenix Got Both Targets, Sacramento Stockpiled Kentucky Bigs

In an effort to bolster their frontcourt, Phoenix acquired the 8th pick from Sacramento for package centered around picks 13 and 28. It was known the Suns were targeting a power forward with the fourth overall pick, and some mock drafts had them selecting Marquese Chriss from Washington. Thursday, there was a late push that Phoenix was looking to take Dragan Bender from Croatia, who the Suns ended up selecting fourth overall. Once Phoenix acquired the eighth pick, they selected Chriss. Though both play power forward, Bender is more of a sure thing while Chriss' draft stock was more based on his upside than his production in college.

With the two picks they received, Sacramento selected a probable stash candidate in center Georgios Papagiannis from Greece at 13 and Kentucky's Skal Labissiere at 28. Labissiere was considered a lottery talent but slid in the draft because of a lack of production during his freshman year. While Labissiere only averaged 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game at Kentucky, his skill set had him ranked second in ESPN's top 100 college recruits in 2015.

He joins former Kentucky big men DeMarcus Cousins and Willie Cauley-Stein in Sacramento. In the first round, the Kings also netted Syracuse guard Malachi Richardson at 22 and the rights to European stash Bogdan Bogdanovic, who is believed to be a great overseas prospect, in the Suns trade.
