Regional Manager Mike Scott

Hometown bias may lead me to mention Washington Wizards players more often than not, but the current situation with Mike Scott is significant whether you cheer for his three-point jacks or forgot he was still in the league.

A combination of factors -- including underwhelming play from others at the position, nagging injuries, and a seemingly always thin Washington bench -- has led to more minutes for Scott, which in turn has led to some pretty rewarding statlines for those of us mining for extreme value and punt plays.

Although Scott has seen increased action as a result of Otto Porter missing time, he’s done well to carve out a role of his own on this Wizards squad. He’s missed at least four-times value just three times in ten games this month, including posting better than six-times value in five of them, none of which is by accident. He’s having a career year and shooting the ball with a lot of confidence, demonstrating his ability to get hot, even from deep, and riding the momentum.

We’re likely to see an increase in salary before we see a massive dip in production, so let’s take advantage of the sub-$5,000 salary while we can (especially with Porter out of the lineup). Moving forward -- and even after Porter’s return -- monitoring Scott’s minutes will be wise, although it’s likely the team will require his contribution on a nightly basis from here out.

The Wiz travel to Brooklyn tonight, before taking on the Magic, Celtics, and Hawks over the course of the next week.
