Jacob deGrom strikes out 13 in Mets' extra-innings Saturday loss

New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom threw seven shutout innings, striking out 13 while taking a no-decision in Saturday's 14-inning loss to the Chicago Cubs.

What It Means:

deGrom was on fire in this one, but so was the Cubs' Mike Montgomery. Saturday marked deGrom's fourth start this year (out of 12 total) in which he's struck out double-digit batters. With more run support, deGrom's 4-0 record would be considerably improved. That said, he's still a top-notch fantasy option, pitching to a 1.49 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 72 1/3 innings.

Our models project deGrom to throw another 132 innings this year, with a 3.20 ERA, 29.4 percent strikeout rate, and 6.8 percent walk rate.
