St. Louis' Yadier Molina (thumb) exits early, status uncertain Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (thumb) left Monday's Game 3 of the National League Division Series early, and Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said he wasn't sure whether the catcher would play in Game 4.
Molina has been behind the dish for the first three games of the series, but he appeared to aggravate his left thumb injury on a swing in the fourth inning Monday. Matheny said he would have to check with the team's medical staff before knowing about Molina's availability Tuesday.
Even if Molina suits up, it's obvious that he's well less than 100 percent. Tony Cruz would get the start if Molina is ruled out. Cruz posted a measly .237 wOBA this season.
