Mike Matheny: Cardinals' starter for Game 4 is to be determined
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny reiterated Monday that his National League Division Series Game 4 starter is to be determined.
Game 4 would be Lance Lynn's turn in the rotation, but if the Cardinals lose on Monday and are facing elimination, Matheny could opt to go in a different direction. Using Game 1 starter John Lackey on short rest is an option, hence the unconfirmed decision for Game 4.
Lynn has pitched well this season, although his 3.90 xFIP suggests his 3.03 ERA is lower than it should be. However, he has not fared well against the Cubs in his last two starts, pitching a total of just 5 2/3 combined innings, allowing 9 runs on 11 hits, walking 8 and striking out just 4.
