Mets' Jacob deGrom (back) throws modified side session on Wednesday
New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (back) threw a modified side session on Wednesday, and remains optimistic that he'll be ready for Opening Day.
For the workout, deGrom threw off the slope of the mound, and said he felt "great." The Mets appear to just be playing things safe, and even if deGrom is not quite ready for Opening Day, it doesn't sound like the back injury should be a major issue entering the season.
Last year, deGrom had a 3.53 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 239 strikeouts in 201 1/3 innings.
