Nationals' Max Scherzer 'ready' to pitch in potential Game 5

Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer told manager Dusty Baker that he's "ready" to pitch in relief in a potential Game 5, according to MASN Sports' Mark Zuckerman.

What It Means:

The Nationals have to win Game 4 before moving on, but in the event of a Game 5 Scherzer will be asked to contribute in any way possible. That will likely come in a relief role with Stephen Strasburg in line to start on Thursday. But things are up in the air more than normal, as rain threatens today's Game 4 matchup in Chicago.

In Game 3, Scherzer went 6 1/3, giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit while tallying 7 strikeouts. He has put together a 4.03 FIP in 19 innings of relief for his career.
