Rangers push back Cole Hamels (shoulder) to Monday
Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels' next start will be Monday against the Houston Astros.
Hamels got hit in the shoulder by a comebacker Tuesday in his win against the Seattle Mariners. He only suffered a minor bruise, and the hard-charging Rangers are only giving him one additional day of rest. It's not a major injury. Chi Chi Gonzalez will start in Hamels' normal turn Sunday afternoon against the Oakland Athletics.
Hamels owns a 2.31 nERD, which is 15th among all pitchers and 3.36 FIP. He's striking out 9.19 hitters per nine innings, the best clip of his career. We have him with a 3.43 ERA and 1.21 WHIP the rest of the way.
