Cardinals trade Mike Leake to Mariners
The St. Louis Cardinals have traded starting pitcher Mike Leake to the Seattle Mariners according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic
According to Bob Nightengale, Leake had a full no trade clause and had to approve the deal. He wanted to be a bit closer to his West Coast roots, and he lives in Phoenix during the offseason, so will now be able to have Spring Training at home. There has been no word on what the Cardinals got in return, but the Mariners will assume the remaining $55 million on Leake's deal.
Leake owns a 4.21 ERA and 4.00 xFIP over 154 innings pitched this season. Our models project him to post a 4.19 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 36.5 innings remaining this season.
