Mets' Jacob deGrom whiffs 10 Pirates into ninth inning
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom struck out 10 and allowed one run over 8 1/3 innings in Friday’s victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was the longest outing by a Mets starter this season. DeGrom allowed just six hits and one walk, with the lone run scoring on a solo homer from Gregory Polanco in the fourth inning. Terry Collins gave him the chance to go the distance initially, but he was pulled at 118 pitches.
DeGrom improved to a 3.23 ERA (3.11 SIERA), with a 32.2 percent strikeout rate and 9.0 percent walk rate in 64 innings through 10 starts.
