Max Scherzer racks up 13 strikeouts in Friday win for Nationals
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer was in dominant form in Friday's victory over the San Diego Padres, racking up a season-high 13 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball.
The right-hander scattered three hits and a pair of walks in the contest. The only damage against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Ryan Schimpf in the fourth inning. He made a bit for his first complete game of the season, but he was lifted after hitting Ryan Schimpf to load the bases with two outs in the inning. Scherzer now boasts a 2.77 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 89/18 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings on the season. He'll do battle against the Giants his next time out on Wednesday in San Francisco.
Scherzer holds a 2.77 ERA (2.84 SIERA), with a 33.3 percent strikeout rate and 6.7 percent walk rate across 68 1/3 innings on the season.
