Jhonny Peralta (illness) expected to be activated by Cardinals on Friday

The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to activate shortstop/third baseman Jhonny Peralta (illness) from the disabled list on Friday.

What It Means:

Peralta has been out since mid-April with an upper respiratory infection and an allergic reaction his medicine. The veteran infielder is currently wrapping up a minor league rehab assignment but will be ready to return to the bigs this week. Peralta will likely be used primary as a pinch hitter and a fill-in infielder since Jed Gyorko has taken over as the starting third baseman in his absence.

numberFire's models project Peralta for a .254 batting average, nine home runs, and 35 RBI's in 309 plate appearances the rest of the season.
