Cardinals sending Stephen Piscotty (hamstring) on a rehab assignment

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.

What It Means:

Piscotty was expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, his first day eligible, but the club wants the outfielder to get a couple of games in before bringing him back up to the big league roster. Tommy Pham has been scorching while he has filled in for Piscotty, batting .371 with a 1.206 OPS in the last nine games, making it easier for the Cards to take their time with Piscotty.

Piscotty had a.341 wOBA with 10 runs scored in 98 plate appearances before the injury.
