Giants' Madison Bumgarner (shoulder, ribs) out 6-8 weeks after dirt bike accident

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19, with bruised ribs and a Grade 1-2 strain of his left shoulder AC joint.

What It Means:

Bumgarner injured himself while dirt biking on Thursday. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says the 27-year-old southpaw is expected to miss 6-8 weeks as he heads to the disabled list for the first time in his career. Ty Blach is the favorite for Bumgarner's spot in the Giants' rotation. Tyler Beede and Chris Stratton are also potential options.

Bumgarner has twirled a 3.00 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 25.0 strikeout percentage across 27 innings this season. He's 0-3 in four starts.
