Cardinals' Matt Carpenter (back) out of the lineup on Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals second/third baseman Matt Carpenter is dealing with some minor back tightness forcing him out of Tuesday's lineup.
Carpenter has dealt with back issues this spring, but the current bout does not look too severe. The one day off is all the Cardinals expect Carpenter will need. Jose Martinez is starting in his place at first and batting eighth versus the Washington Nationals.
Carpenter has batted 5-for-24 (.208) with one RBI and three runs scored in 29 plate appearances to start the season.
