Rockies' Ian Desmond diagnosed with left hand fracture
Colorado Rockies outfielder Ian Desmond has been diagnosed with a fractured left hand, the result of getting hit by a pitch in Cactus League play on Sunday.
Tough blow for the Rockies as Desmond, who was penciled in as their everyday first baseman, was their big offseason pickup. He is scheduled to meet a hand specialist on Monday to determine the recovery timetable. Desmond will no doubt start the season on the disabled list and will likely miss at least the first month if not longer.
Desmond batted .285 with 22 HR, 86 RBI, and 21 SB in 2016 with the Texas Rangers.
