Rangers reportedly have deal in place with Mike Napoli
The Texas Rangers and free-agent first baseman Mike Napoli reportedly have a one-year deal in place, pending a physical.
Napoli played last season with the American League Champion Cleveland Indians, setting a career-high in home runs (34) and runs batted in (101). The 35-year-old was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Indians, so the Rangers will not have to give up a draft pick to sign the veteran. Napoli will be a powerful right-handed hitter off the bench while spelling Carlos Beltran at designated hitter and Mitch Moreland at first on occasion.
Napoli has two previous stints with the Rangers under his belt, playing 256 games for the club in 2011-12 and the end of 2015. He owns .277 batting average with 59 home runs and 141 RBI's while wearing a Rangers uniform.
