Brandon Moss nearing contract with Royals
Free agent first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss is close to signing a contract with the Kansas City Royals, Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports.
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports says it's a two-year, $12 million deal. It's a good fit for both sides, as Moss should see regular at-bats against righties between the designated hitter spot and right field. He'll also be an option for first base in 2018 if Eric Hosmer bolts as a free agent. The consistency probably won't be there, but Moss should provide power for the Royals.
Moss batted a healthy .270/.344/.586 with 25 home runs through his first 97 games last season, but he finished the year in a hideous 10-for-106 slump (.094).
