Rockies lock up Ian Desmond for five years, $70 million
The Colorado Rockies have signed outfielder Ian Desmond, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The contract will be worth $70 million, according to FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman, while Joel Sherman says it's a five-year agreement. Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports the potential value is as high as $83 million due to a sixth-year option. Colorado doesn't have any need for outfielders, so more moves could be on the way, such as Charlie Blackmon perhaps being dealt. Rosenthal did add that Desmond is expected to split time between first base and the outfield, so it's a great fit for his fantasy outlook either way.
The 31-year-old hit .285/.335/.446 with 22 jacks, 86 RBI's, 21 stolen bags and 107 runs scored in 677 plate appearances last season, so he was due for a nice payday.
