Wilson Ramos

Nationals not extending qualifying offer to Wilson Ramos (knee)

The Washington Nationals are not going to make a one-year $17.2 million qualifying offer to catcher Wilson Ramos.

What It Means:

Coming off the second major right knee injury of his career, Ramos wouldn't have hesitated to ink that deal. He will likely be out of major league action until the middle of the 2017 season after going under the knife last month for ACL and meniscus tears in his right knee. While the 29-year-old catcher will still make out just fine on the open market, the timing is unfortunate for Ramos after a stellar year from the dish in 2016.

Ramos slashed .307/.354/.496 with a career-best .361 wOBA through 523 plate appearances. He tallied 22 home runs and 80 RBI's on the year, both of which also represent career-highs.
