Cole Hamels roasted for seven scores, Rangers lose Game 1
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cole Hamels was rocked for seven runs (six earned) in 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series on Thursday.
Hamels' late-season struggles continued in this one, as he was tagged for seven hits, and also handed out three free passes in the Game 1 loss. The third inning was particularly brutal for Hamels, as he was worked for 42 pitches and five scores. Yu Darvish will attempt to even things up against J.A. Happ and the Blue Jays on Friday.
Hamels posted a 3.32 ERA and 23.6 strikeout percentage in 200 2/3 innings (32 starts) during the regular season, but he struggled a bit down the stretch, posting a 5.86 ERA across 27 2/3 September frames.
