Matt Holliday (thumb) doubtful to return for Cardinals this year
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday (thumb) is doubtful to return to the club's active roster this year.
Holliday was aiming to take live batting practice over the weekend, but it didn't happen. The veteran outfielder is apparently still dealing with some discomfort and strength issues surrounding his surgically-repaired right thumb. St. Louis has an interesting decision to make this winter with Holliday holding a $17 million club option for 2017.
Holliday will likely wrap up his 2016 campaign with a .242/.318/.450 slash, .330 wOBA and .208 ISO across 424 plate appearances. He posted a career-low .768 OPS with 19 homers and 60 RBI's in 107 games this season and will turn 37 years old in January.
