Cardinals' Matt Carpenter dealing with injury to finger
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter has been dealing with an issue to his right ring finger.
The injury explains his absence from Monday's lineup against the Cincinnati Reds. It's reportedly been a lingering issue and the Cardinals are hopeful rest will prove to be a sufficient remedy. Greg Garcia is starting at second base and leading off.
Carpenter is slashing .270/.375/.496 with a .370 wOBA and .226 ISO through 539 plate appearances on the season. He's struggled in September, hitting season-worsts with a .210 batting average and 23.9 strikeout percentage (88 plate appearances).
