Mike Leake (shingles) cleared to return Wednesday for Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Mike Leake (shingles) has been cleared to return to the starting rotation Wednesday.
Leake will face the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first outing back from being sidelined with the shingles virus. He owns a 4.56 ERA and a 16.8 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) in 152 innings pitched this season.
Leake's 3.73 xFIP suggests he hasn't pitched as poorly as his ERA makes it seem. We project him to record a 3.95 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over the remaining course of the season.
