Cardinals place Mike Leake (shingles) on disabled list
St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Mike Leake was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 22, with shingles.
Leake was scratched from Saturday's scheduled start against the Oakland Athletics after being diagnosed with the virus last week. Shingles are pretty unpredictable, so no timetable currently exists for Leake's return to the mound. Top prospect Alex Reyes replaced him on Saturday and is likely to get the nod this week in Cincinnati versus the Reds.
The 28-year-old righty owns a 4.56 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 152 innings this season. His 16.8 strikeout percentage is the second-highest mark of his career (18.2 percent in 2014).
