Carlos Gomez, Mike Fiers traded to the Astros
The Astros have acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitcher Mike Fiers from the Brewers.
This one has been confirmed by both teams on Twitter, so we don't anticipate any of the drama that happened last night to repeat itself.
Gomez has a 0.57 nERD, which puts him above a league average hitter, but is 124th in the league. He has reverse splits this year with a .340 wOBA against righties and a .297 wOBA against lefties. However he has an elite 38.3 percent hard hit rate against lefties so the potential is there to turn it around. The Astros starting outfielders (Springer, Rasmus, and Tucker) are already strong against righties. None of them have a wOBA below .329 against righties this year.
Fiers has been solid this year with a 3.89 ERA and 3.87 xFIP. His 1.97 nERD, which is the amount of runs he is preventing over a league-average pitcher per game, ranks 31st among all pitchers. The Astros have two other pitchers in top 30 in nERD with Collin McHugh (29th overall) and Dallas Keuchel (7th overall). The Astros are all systems go to make a run down the stretch.
