Philadelphia puts Jeanmar Gomez on paternity leave
The Philadelphia Phillies placed closer Jeanmar Gomez on paternity leave.
The Phillies will be without Gomez for the next three-to-seven days. Should a save opportunity arise with Gomez gone, Philadelphia will likely choose to play matchups. Gomez owns a 2.72 ERA and 27 saves -- tied for seventh-most -- in 49 2/3 innings this season.
Gomez has a 4.03 xFIP, which is significantly higher than his ERA, and his 16.08 strikeout percentage is well below the league average (21.02 percent). We project him to record a 2.91 ERA and an 18.18 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
