Orioles discussing Erasmo Ramirez with Rays
The Baltimore Orioles have had trade discussions with the Tampa Bay Rays about the acquisition of pitcher Erasmo Ramirez, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.
The Orioles missed out on Andrew Cashner (traded to the Marlins), so Ramirez appears to represent a Plan B for the club. Despite the 26-year-old right-hander working almost exclusively as a reliever this season (one start, 5 2/3 innings), Baltimore would consider using him as a starter in their rotation, as long as his stamina allows for it.
Ramirez owns a 3.90 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 18.11 strikeout percentage over 60 innings this season for the Rays. His 3.84 SIERA is his lowest mark since his rookie season.
