Jeurys Familia blows second straight save chance for Mets

New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia blew his second straight save chance Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in a loss to the Colorado Rockies.

What It Means:

Prior to Thursday's game, Mets manager Terry Collins said that Familia would not be available after pitching the last two days, but Familia apparently told Collins that he wanted to toe the rubber. The Rockies didn't hit anything hard against Familia -- one hit was a grounder up the middle, while the other was a bunt single that should have been fielded by catcher Rene Rivera -- but Familia couldn't close the door. He has now blown two consecutive save opportunities after converting 52 in a row, and his ERA has jumped from 2.47 to 3.14 in the process.

Familia's xFIP increased to 3.33 after Wednesday's performance, but he still owns a 23.90 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.01 percent). Our models currently project him to record a 3.25 ERA and a 22.81 strikeout percentage over the rest of the year.
