St. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras (hand) is not in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series opener against left-hander Ryan Weathers and the Miami Marlins.
What It Means:
Contreras is dealing with a potential injury after being hit in the hand by a pitch on Wednesday. Once the swelling goes down in his hand, he will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Ivan Herrera will catch for Lance Lynn and hit cleanup against Weathers on Thursday afternoon. Alec Burleson will start at designated hitter and bat seventh. Victor Scott II will lead things off for the Cardinals and Nolan Arenado will hit third.
