Dillon Overton will make debut for Athletics on Saturday
Oakland Athletics pitching prospect Dillon Overton will be called up to make his major league debut on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels.
Eric Surkamp will be bumped up to take the mound Friday, putting Overton in line to toe the major league rubber for the first time Saturday. It's not surprising that Oakland decided to give the 24-year-old an opportunity, as he worked 7 1/3 shutout innings for Triple-A Nashville in his last start and owns a 1.40 ERA over his last seven outings. We wouldn't be surprised to see him provide some deep-league value, albeit with a limited ceiling.
Overton is 8-4 in 13 starts at the Triple-A level this season, striking out 7.75 batters per nine frames across 83 2/3 total innings.
