Toronto's Brett Cecil (lat) set for rehab appearances

Toronto Blue Jays reliever Brett Cecil (lat) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Dunedin.

What It Means:

Cecil has missed the last month due to a lat strain and will likely require three-to-four minor league rehab appearances before being ready to rejoin the Blue Jays. He posted a 5.23 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings this season before suffering the lat injury.

Cecil was excellent last season for Toronto, posting a 2.39 xFIP and an impressive 32.7 strikeout percentage in 54 1/3 innings of relief. His 1.4 Wins Above Replacement tied for 21st best among relievers in 2015, and among that group, only four relievers had fewer saves than his five.
