Rangers' Josh Hamilton (knee) had undiscovered ACL tear

While Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was undergoing surgery to repair arterial and meniscus cartilage in his left knee, the surgeon discovered an ACL injury.

What It Means:

After the surgeon saw the issue, Hamilton subsequently underwent an ACL reconstruction. He had already been expected to miss the rest of the regular season while recovering from the surgery to repair his cartilage. This does nothing to change that equation for the 35-year-old outfielder. Instead, it merely adds another hurdle he will have to overcome in rehab.

Hamilton's season never actually got started as he was bothered by the knee in spring training and got pulled off a minor league rehab assignment earlier this month due to continued soreness. He's owed $30 million in 2017, with the Los Angeles Angels picking up most of the tab.
