Shohei Ohtani sitting Wednesday afternoon for Angels

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is not in the starting lineup against left-hander MacKenzie Gore and the Washington Nationals in Wednesday afternoon's series finale.

What It Means:

The Angels are giving Ohtani his first breather of the season after he threw seven shutout innings on Tuesday and picked up a win. Mike Trout will shift to DH for the finale while Brett Phillips will replace Ohtani in the lineup to play center field and hit ninth. Anthony Rendon will hit third and Hunter Renfroe will be the Angels' cleanup man.

Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Angels' implied total is 4.99 and the game total is 9.0. Gore owns a 2.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with a 26.7% strikeout rate and a 13.3% walk rate across 11 1/3 innings in two starts.
