Pirates defeat St. Louis, Mark Melancon earns ninth save

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Mark Melancon picked up his ninth save of the season Sunday in the Pirates' defeat of the St. Louis Cardinals.

What It Means:

Melancon was brought on in the bottom of the ninth inning after Ryan Vogelsong loaded the bases, and he induced a game-ending double play from Yadier Molina.

Melancon has a cool 2.77 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 21.15 strikeout percentage in 13 innings this season. He's blown only one save opportunity in 15 appearances.
