Christian Vazquez's homer powers Boston past New York
Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning on Sunday, propelling the Red Sox to an 8-6 victory over the New York Yankees.
In a back-and-forth contest, Vazquez provided the biggest blow of the night, launching the first pitch he saw from Dellin Betances over the Green Monster in left to break a 6-6 tie. It was the young backstop's only hit in the ballgame as he finished 1-for-4.
It has been a struggle at the dish to this point for Vazquez as he is hitting just .225/.279/.375 with one homer and two RBI's. With Blake Swihart demoted to Triple-A, Vazquez is locked into a starting gig. We project him to post a measly .264 wOBA in 330 plate appearances this year.
