Twins' Glen Perkins to rest and rehab shoulder

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Glen Perkins was recommended to rest and rehab his strained left shoulder after getting a second opinion from Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati.

What It Means:

In other words, Kremchek agreed with the Twins' diagnosis. Perkins probably won't be ready when he's first eligible on April 26, but the good news is surgery won't be required. Kevin Jepsen will continue to fill in at closer, although Trevor May could be a long-term threat for the job if Perkins' injury lingers.

Perkins has posted a strikeout percentage above 22 percent and recorded at least 32 saves in each of the past three seasons. He only blew three save opportunities last year. We project him to record a 3.40 ERA with a 24.4 strikeout percentage in 2016.
