Athletics place Felix Doubront on disabled list with elbow sprain
Oakland Athletics pitcher Felix Doubront has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left elbow.
Doubront suffered the injury in his final spring training start Saturday versus the San Francisco Giants. It was originally called forearm tightness, but tests apparently showed some form of structural damage. He had been lined up to serve as Oakland's fifth starter to open the 2016 season. Maybe the time has already come for Jesse Hahn's return to the majors.
Doubront posted a 4.31 xFIP in 75 1/3 innings last season for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Athletics. His 17.1 strikeout percentage was below the league average of 20.4 percent. We had projected Doubront to record a 4.61 ERA and 14.8 strikeout percentage across 75 innings in 2016, but the severity of his injury could affect this forecast.
